Tutorial

These are the core concepts used throughout the site. Understanding them before diving into any tutorial will make the rest much easier to follow.

A Season

This site uses the NFL’s definition of a season for ease of use. A season runs from Offseason Phase 1 to Offseason Phase 1. The first season begins in the Preseason and ends immediately after the Super Bowl — just like in Madden.

Philosophy

Determines the personnel groups you most often field — for example, 2 RB / 3 WR / 1 TE versus 1 RB / 4 WR / 1 TE. Choosing a philosophy tells the site what positions are starters and how many you carry at each spot.

Philosophy is set in the Scheme Setter at the start of each season and can be changed later from the Role Center.

Construction

Determines the desired overalls at each position. The site calculates the Overall Rating Rank of each player upon import, then compares that rank to your construction’s Required Rank for that position. This comparison produces your Role Grade.

Think of construction as the quality target for your roster — a contender build requires top-tier players at every spot, while a “Minimum” construction only asks each player to be in the top 32 at their position league-wide.

Tip: “Balanced — Minimum” typically scores highest for new franchises. Its required overalls are set at the 32nd-ranked player at each position — meaning every player only needs to be in the top 32 at their position league-wide, which is achievable from day one.

Role Grades

As they appear on the Role Center, each player in a role receives one of four grades based on how their Overall Rating Rank compares to the Rank Required by your construction:

  • Filled — the player’s Overall Rating Rank meets or exceeds the Rank Required. The role is covered.
  • Serviceable — the player’s rank is within 16 places of the Rank Required. Adequate, but not ideal.
  • Liability — the player’s rank is more than 32 places below the Rank Required. A clear roster gap.
  • Developing — the player doesn’t meet the Rank Required, but has an X-Factor or Superstar Development Trait. Worth keeping an eye on.
Why grades matter: Role grades feed directly into the site’s need scores for every position. High-need positions should be prioritised in re-signings, free agency, and the draft.
